PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

The purpose of this course is to provide you with an overview and understanding of all issues relevant for effective execution of work in confined spaces.

 

 

Target Population

All persons whose work-related activities involve the management and control of occupational health, safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) issues, and who need to deal with emergency situations with regards to confined spaces

 

Pre-requisites

  • Matric, or
  • Completed trade, or
  •  23 years + 5 years’ work-related experience, or
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in a leadership role exposed to managing a line function or occupational health, safety environment.

  • Understanding the nature of confined spaces.
  • Understanding how to identify confined spaces and evaluate their related hazards.
  • Identifying necessary control measures for work in confined spaces.
  • Understanding roles and responsibilities of persons involved in confined space work programmes.
  • Understanding training requirements for persons involved in confined space work programmes.
  • Understanding the procedure to be followed in the execution of confined space work programmes.
  • Understanding the necessity of emergency response measures.
  • Comprehending the legal requirements pertaining to confined space programmes.
